FLY FISHING ADVENTURE BEGINS HERE
WELCOME TO FLYGUIDE.CA
For more than 30 years, we’ve been helping fly anglers turn their dreams into reality, guiding guests from around the world to exceptional Steelhead, Salmon, and Trout fishing in British Columbia. Fly fishing has been our passion for as long as we can remember, and we’re proud to share that passion year‑round on Vancouver Island through our guided day trips.
We position you in the right places at the right times to experience outstanding fly‑fishing opportunities. Our trips accommodate one to four anglers, and we’re happy to recommend comfortable, convenient accommodations in the Campbell River area. Trips include gear and flies if required.
Guests typically meet at our home on the Campbell River, at 7:30 a.m. to gear up and begin the day’s adventure. Full‑day guided trips (8 hours) are $850 CAD plus GST for 1-2 anglers. For Spring until Fall, our most popular option is staying local on the Campbell River for a half‑day guided float trip (5 hours), for $650 CAD plus GST. For groups of three to four anglers, an additional guide can be arranged.
TARGETED SPECIES
SUMMER STEELHEAD
June - October
Beginning in late June, our first Summer Steelhead begin to arrive. These fish often push into the upper reaches and tributaries of our watersheds, where Vancouver Island’s fly‑fishing locations shine—pristine, gin‑clear water with the kind of pools and runs anglers dream about.
This is perfect fly water, ideal for casting and dead‑drifting large dry flies. And when one of these chrome‑bright wild fish comes up for your fly, hold on. The experience is electric. Without question, this is some of the finest fly‑fishing anywhere in the world.
SALMON
July - November
Pink Salmon are the first to arrive, showing up in mid‑July. We begin targeting them along our ocean beaches, where schools cruise just off the shoreline and eagerly chase a stripped fly. They’re aggressive, hard‑fighting, and average around 4 pounds—easy to hook, fun to land, and a perfect introduction to salmon on the fly. They’re also a blast in the rivers when they first push in, still bright and chrome.
Coho Salmon (Silvers) follow from August through November and can be targeted much like the Pinks in both ocean and river environments. Averaging around 8 pounds, they’re acrobatic, fast, and notoriously challenging to bring to hand.
When conditions allow, we also pursue Chum and the occasional King Salmon. These fish are powerful, demanding, and more than a handful once hooked.
WINTER AND SPRING STEELHEAD
November - April
There’s nothing quite like hooking a sea‑bright Winter Steelhead. From late November through April, Vancouver Island’s rivers run higher than average, drawing these powerful fish in from the ocean. Throughout the season, specific watersheds shine when the conditions line up, offering some of the finest sport fishing the Island has to offer.
We favour two‑handed rods and large flies to search out these fish, often floating several kilometres downriver each day through remote, rugged terrain. The reward is clear, bright water—and bright, hard‑charging Steelhead that make every cast worth it.
TROUT
Dolly Varden, Sea‑Run Cutthroat, and Rainbow Trout can all be found throughout Vancouver Island. We can target these species specifically, though we often encounter them incidentally while fishing for Salmon and Steelhead. Our most unique trout fishery is the pursuit of Sea‑Run Cutthroat along our ocean beaches—a truly special experience found in only a handful of places.
