Winter and Spring Fishing

There’s nothing quite like hooking a sea‑bright Winter Steelhead. From late November through April, Vancouver Island’s rivers run higher than average, drawing these powerful fish in from the ocean. Throughout the season, certain watersheds shine when conditions align, offering some of the finest sport fishing Vancouver Island has to offer.

Steelhead

We favour two‑handed rods and large flies to search out these fish, often floating several kilometres of river each day through remote, rugged terrain in pursuit of bright water and bright Winter Steelhead.

Trout

While fly‑fishing on Vancouver Island, it’s not uncommon to encounter Sea‑Run Cutthroat while searching for Steelhead—feisty, aggressive fish that readily chase a fly. Our Winter and Spring Steelhead and Trout enter the rivers between November and May, and we fish a variety of systems including the Salmon and Nimpkish.

Spring also brings excellent lake fishing for trout, offering another great option for visiting anglers.
